1. Deicing and Dust Control: Calcium chloride prills are widely used as a deicing agent on roads, highways, sidewalks, and parking lots during winter weather conditions. When spread on icy surfaces, calcium chloride absorbs moisture from the air and generates heat through an exothermic reaction, melting ice and snow effectively. It also helps to prevent the formation of ice and reduce dust by suppressing the airborne dispersion of fine particles on unpaved roads and construction sites.
2. Drying Agent: Calcium chloride prills are employed as a desiccant or drying agent in various applications, such as drying gases, liquids, and solids. Due to its hygroscopic nature, calcium chloride absorbs moisture from the surrounding environment, making it suitable for maintaining low humidity levels in storage areas, electronic equipment, and packaging materials.
3. Concrete Accelerator: Calcium chloride prills are used as a concrete accelerator to accelerate the setting and curing of concrete mixes, particularly in cold weather conditions. By increasing the rate of hydration of cement particles, calcium chloride helps to reduce the setting time and improve the early strength development of concrete, allowing construction projects to proceed more efficiently in colder climates.
4. Brine Solution for Refrigeration: Calcium chloride prills are dissolved in water to form a calcium chloride brine solution, which is commonly used as a refrigerant and heat transfer fluid in refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
